Skiing Getaway with Ease
Fast and Comfortable from Hamburg to St. Anton am Arlberg on the ICE
With the “Ski Express Tyrol,” St. Anton am Arlberg achieved a new milestone in mobility: For the first time in December 2022, an ICE traveled directly from Hamburg through Munich to St. Anton am Arlberg. Tourism Director Martin Ebster expressed his excitement, “When the visionaries of St. Anton built the Arlberg railway and our train station, they were surely not aware of the significance. 140 years later, both are more crucial than ever in terms of sustainability. Therefore, we are delighted to take another step towards environmentally friendly travel for our guests with the new direct ICE connection from Hamburg.” With the arrival of the first ICE 1201, St. Anton am Arlberg (1,303 meters) now officially hosts the world's highest ICE station.
The “Ski Express Tyrol” will run in the winter season 2023/24 until March 30, 2024, departing every Saturday at 04.32 AM from Hamburg and taking guests to the “cradle of alpine skiing” in about ten hours via Hannover, Munich, and Innsbruck, and back. Additionally, there is another ICE direct connection to St. Anton departing from Munich at 06.27 AM on Saturdays. With an arrival time of 10.08 AM, ski enthusiasts can enjoy nearly a full day on the slopes. In the summer season 2024, from June 20 to October 5, an ICE connection between Munich and St. Anton will also be available.
The train ends where the vacation begins – thanks to the 'Ski Express Tyrol' from Hamburg through Hannover, Munich, and Innsbruck, the 'cradle of alpine skiing' is now the official home of the world's highest ICE station.
