Around St. Anton am Arlberg
1 to 3 hour hikes
Walk from the St. Anton am Arlberg Tourism Association up into Oberdorf and onto the Hotel Mooserkreuz. Alternatively, take the No. 3 bus – Mooserkreuz to the Dengert / Moos stop. Follow the hiking trail into the Verwall adventure valley and hike around Lake Verwall. Refreshments are available at the Wagner hut extern. Return via the same hiking trail back to St. Anton, or return by the same No 3 bus – Mooserkreuz. Alternatively, you can also hike through the Rosanna Gorge to the Verwall lake and back.
This hike begins at the St. Anton am Arlberg tourist office and leads to Oberdorf and on towards Verwallsee. On the way, turn off at the Stiegenegg chapel and follow the path towards Maiensee. Cross the street and walk along the Maienweg to the Sennhütte extern. The way back to the village leads over the Mooserweg. Alternatively, you can start the circular route through the Rosannaschlucht into Verwall.
Walk from the St. Anton am Arlberg tourist office to Nasserein, follow the Jakobusweg to Gand and walk back to St. Anton am Arlberg via St. Jakob or along the Rosanna.
Starting from the Galzig mountain station, take the gondola to the top and then follow the signs to the Maiensee and to the Sennhütte extern. Senn's WunderWanderWeg can also be hiked from there. This hike can also start in the village or in St. Christoph.
Take the Rendlbahn to the mountain station. The Alpenrosenweg begins here, so follow the signs towards the RendlAlm. Descend from the RendlAlm eastwards on the road to the junction of the hiking trail towards St. Anton am Arlberg. Follow this for about 20 minutes to the road. Now go westwards towards St. Anton am Arlberg to the next junction, Erzherzog-Eugen-Weg, which leads down to the right through the forest to St. Anton.
This hike starts at the Pettneu am Arlberg Tourism Association, and from there, five different paths lead to the Nessler Alm and the Old Nessler Thaja.
Above Schnann lies a natural gem marked by roaring waters: The legendary Schnanner Gorge. It can be reached in five minutes on foot from the centre of Schnann. Over steep rocks and two mighty dams the water thunders in the narrow gorge to the valley. In order to make this impressive natural experience accessible to everyone, the gorge has been extended with an iron climbing facility. On the way through the striking rock walls, along the rushing torrent, past waterfalls, you will be overwhelmed of the enormous power of water.
4 to 7 hour hikes
From the starting point at Arlberg WellCom extern, head east along the Art Mile to the Nassereinbahn. Follow Nassereinergasse to the Hotel Reselehof, then turn left into Nassereinerstraße. Follow this past the front of the chapel, then turn left and up to the meeting with the forest path. After approx. 200 m, cross the bridge over the Schönbach on the right, then turn left uphill on the forest road to the first water intake. Now follow the signs ‘28 A’. Hike through the forest until you come to the forest path shortly before the Putzenalpe. Continue to the right, and after about 15 minutes, you’ll reach the Putzenalpe. Return via Weg 28 B to St. Jakob am Arlberg, and from there via Jakobusweg Weg 14 back to St. Anton am Arlberg.
From Arlberg WellCom extern, head west to the Rendlbahn, and immediately after crossing the pedestrian bridge, follow the signs ‘Moostalweg’, past the Bifang Alm (only open in winter), continue to the dam, go over the footbridge onto the other side of the valley to the right and follow the forest road as it zigzags through the forest until you reach a clearing. Follow the forest road slightly downhill to the Wagner hut, and from there, there’s a short climb to the hiking trail to the right in an easterly direction, which leads back to St. Anton am Arlberg.
From Arlberg WellCom extern, head west to the Rendlbahn, and immediately after crossing the pedestrian bridge, follow the signs for ‘Moostalweg’, past the Bifang Alm (only open in winter) on Weg 32. After the dam wall, follow the road uphill on the left until it joins the Moostalfahrweg. From here, follow the signs to the Rendl mountain station. The Alpenrosenweg begins here, so follow the signs towards the RendlAlm. Descend from the RendlAlm eastwards on the road to the junction of the hiking trail towards St. Anton am Arlberg. Follow this for about 20 minutes to the road. Now go westwards towards St. Anton am Arlberg to the next junction, Erzherzog-Eugen-Weg, which leads down to the right through the forest to St. Anton.
From Arlberg WellCom extern, head west to the Rendlbahn, and immediately after crossing the pedestrian bridge, follow the signs for ‘Moostalweg’, past the Bifang Alm (only open in winter) on Weg 32. After the dam wall, follow the road uphill on the left until it joins the Moostalfahrweg. From here, continue right on the forest road to the Tritschalpe junction, then turn right, and over the bridge to the Alpe. From here, behind the Alpe, follow the footpath to the Ski Club Arlberg Hut. Keep on the right side of the Moosbach up to the footbridge, then cross it, and after a short distance it goes back to the Moostalfahrweg. Follow this until the end of the Kartellsee. From there, turn right onto the hiking trail to the Darmstädter Hütte. The same route takes you back to the starting point.
Take the Verwall bus to the Salzhütte, and from there follow the path to the Konstanzer Hütte. Alternatively, you can start your hike from the Mooserkreuz at the Verwall entrance. You can hike back to Verwallsee, through the Rosannaschlucht and back to St. Anton, or back to Mooserkreuz and take the No. 3 bus back to St. Anton.
Starting point St. Christoph. Behind the Valluga Inn, follow the signs for the Kaltenberghütte (Weg 19) until you come to the fork in the Berggeistweg / Kaltenberghütte. Here, on the left, follow the signs slightly uphill for the Berggeistweg over Blockwerk, then more steeply uphill via zigzags to a plateau, and from here westward across beautiful alpine meadows to the Maroiseen. Now running over a steep hilltop (lift station), the gravel path leads westward to the Albonagrat mountain station, always keeping west over the ridge and then down to the Kaltenberghütte. Return on the Paul-Bantlin-Weg past the ventilation tower of the Arlberg tunnel and the Albona lakes ‘Weg 19’ to St. Christoph am Arlberg.
From Arlberg WellCom extern, head west to the roundabout on Alte Arlbergstrasse, and after approx. 200 m turn right to the museum. Crossing the park along the Steißbach, our path leads into the Mühltobel Gorge. On a well-secured path, and partly over stairs past the waterfall, it goes up to the Dengert district on ‘Weg 9A Mooserweg towards Sennhütte’. Continue to the left, past the Sennhütte extern and along the ski slope and path up into the Steißbachtal. At the end of this, you’ll get to the Arlensattel, and further west, to the Ulmer Hut. Come back via the same route.
Alternatively, take ‘Weg 23’ back to the Galzigbahn station, and return to the valley via the Galzigbahn gondola.
Hike from Pettneu through the Malfontal, past the Malfon Alm, which is an inviting spot for a short break, followed by an ascent to the hut. Overnight stays are possible in summer, if, for example, you want to climb the Hohen Riffler or hike the Verwall circuit.
Starting from the church, follow the Dorfstrasse eastwards to the hamlet of Hof. Then follow the signs for Weg 1 to Alpe Dawin. Another variant, via Weg 5 takes you through the hamlet of Obweg to Weg 1 and on to Alpe Dawin. The same route takes you back to the starting point (approx. 2 hours).
From the church in Schnann, follow in a northerly direction the signs to Schnanner Klamm. After this follow the signs ‘Fritzhütte / Ansbacher Hütte’. From the Fritzhütte, the trail lightly undulates over mountain meadows, then later becomes steeper up to the Ansbacher Hütte. Return the same way to Schnann or via Weg 24 to Flirsch.
Starting from the church in Flirsch, follow the Dorfstrasse in an easterly direction until it joins the main road, then continue eastwards to the junction on the right over the Rosanna. From here, follow the Alpe Gampernun road (Weg 11) to the first bend, then continue on the steep hiking Weg No. 10 towards Mösli (biotope, nature reserve), a swampy high ground with a small pond. A marked trail (Weg 13) continues to the Ganatschalm. Shortly after the Alm, branch off onto hiking trail Weg 13A, follow it to the next crossroads, and then continue on Weg 12 to Flirsch. You can also return from the Ganatschalm via forest Weg 13 to Schnann.
