Themed trail "Flirsch in old views"

Time travel in Flirsch

This themed trail takes you back in time, showing the ‘old village life’ in the mountains. Starting from the village centre, the path leads past historic buildings over the Flirscher Berg and on to the Plattenkreuz on the Römerweg. Return to the starting point via the Dorfstrasse. On the way, you’ll gain insights into history and discover some special buildings, including the villa, the Hotel Basur, and the Protzenegg schoolhouse.

Römerweg - the Roman Way

The name ‘Römerweg’ is a little misleading. In fact, this road over the Arlberg was insignificant in Roman times, and it wasn’t until the late Middle Ages that it received greater attention as a connection to the Lake Constance area. It remained a dangerous passage until its extensive expansion by Emperor Josef II in 1782-84. At the end of the 18th century, a regular post connection was established between Landeck and Nasserein (then the name of St. Anton am Arlberg), and Flirsch had its first post office, where the horses were also changed.
