Until recently she was called Geli Hiesel and had actually planned to have a double-barrelled name.
Now
married to extreme skier, Stefan Häusl – a surname like Hiesel-Häusel was never going to work - so she is called Geli Häusl. She is a passionate freeride skier and, until the birth of her daughter Jana almost two years ago, had made the sport her career.
Nowadays, it's her husband
travelling on the Freeride World Tour and Geli sometimes joins him, but can be found more often on the slopes of
Arlberg. The term "Freeriding" means skiing off piste, preferably in fresh powder.
„We are always looking for an ideal line in the opposite lying slopes“, says this cheerful woman, who works as a ski instructor in winter and mountain guide in summer and knows the mountains of Arlberg like the back of her hand. And: „Free riding should always look very easy and simple - even though it isn't“.
She is already looking forward to winter and the many opportunities for off piste
skiing. Hardly any other ski resort in the Alps offers as many possibilities to do just that as St. Anton am Arlberg.
