Interski 2011: the Big Congress is drawing nearer
It is the most important meeting in the sector of snowsport specialists: the Interski Congress 2011 will go onstage in St. Anton am Arlberg in 2011. And just possibly, it will have revolutionary repercussions on activities out on the ski slopes.
Every four years, experts from the world of snow sports from all over the world get together for the Interski Congress. That’s where the latest trends and developments in winter sports education and teaching techniques are analysed, as well as new techniques presented. Peter Mall and his team will welcome more than 2,000 skiing specialists from 15 to 22 Janaury 2011 in St. Anton am Arlberg.
Mall was nominated as General Secretary of the coming Interski Congress
already in the run-up to convention preparations. Yet what precisely does this summit conference of experts on skis, snowboards, etc. have to do with the sport itself? »It is a bit like a Vatican Synod of the snow sports people. These conferences have repeatedly unleashed smaller and sometimes not so small revolutions in the evolution of snow sports,« explains Mall. In 1999, for example, in Beitostolen, Norway, the way was paved for the introduction of the big carving movement.
Ski slopes of the future
Significant questions for the delegates that address the future out on the slopes and along the downhill descents of the world abound. Ski instructors, educators, sports scientists, physicians and other experts
will discuss, to name but one area, how one can best reflect the ever greater life expectancies of human beings in winter sports. Snow sports at age 70 and beyond could well be the big theme of coming
years. One thing is certain, already at this early stage: even spectators and bystanders can look forward to this big congress. In January 2011, they will see the world’s best skiers in action, and what’s
more, in aesthetically compelling form. About 30 teams will present the latest trends and developments in techniques in breathtaking demonstration runs at the Finish Line Stadium. For those with their ears to the ground, this might be just the right occasion to experience and
learn future skiing trends and techniques before the masses even hear about them. Perhaps this or that trick can also be gleaned, putting you ahead of the curve.
